Celebrating Education on #GivingTuesday

Posted on

As Reading Village comes to a close and we look back over the last 12 years, we see how your generosity has made it possible for us to support reading and educational activities in five partner communities, to build leadership skills and education for more than 150 teens, and to reach more than 12,000 children with access to books for the first time in their lives.

You’ve also made it possible to bring the 67 teens currently enrolled in the program to this point in their education and development.

Please help us in our commitment to enable them to complete their high school educations – an accomplishment that will allow these remarkable young people to improve their professional opportunities, increase their family incomes, further develop their communities, and reach their full potential.

MAIA (formerly Starfish), a trusted organization also working in youth education and leadership in the Sololá region of Guatemala, has committed to administering the 67 remaining Reading Village scholarships over the next four years. We’re grateful to them for their continued collaboration and partnership which will help to make Reading Village’s closing a more seamless transition for the teens.

“Thanks to your support, I’m the first person in my family to attend high school! This makes me happy because it helps me to be a strong role model for my younger sisters. I know they look up to me and that is a big responsibility.” ~ Claudia

There is still much work to complete in Guatemala.

Indigenous youth in these communities still need your help. On this #GivingTuesday, please consider making one final gift to Reading Village.
