Let’s Get Going to Guatemala!

Fall LJ 2013 - Blog 1

It’s that time of year again. The nights are getting cool. Back to school sales have long since ceased. School buses have returned to our streets. With a sigh of nostalgia I have to admit, it must be fall. As the 2013-2014 school year gets underway here in the States, another group of students are well into their second semester. In Guatemala, the school year starts in January and ends in October/November. That means that some of our scholars will be graduating in just a couple of months, while others are have submitted applications to enter the program in January.

You know what fall also means? It means that we’re going to Guatemala again and we want you to come with us!

That’s right, this November we’ll be traveling back down south to meet our scholars – old and new – to travel with our staff and to take a critical look at the impact of education on low-income communities. From November 2-9, 2013, join the authors of Yoga Wisdom at Work: Finding Sanity Off the Mat and On the Job in Guatemala. Spend eight days alongside fellow travelers & philanthropists from around the world and witness for yourself how lives are being transformed and how you can help. While you learn about literacy, education, and development, Maren and Jamie Showkeir will lead optional yoga classes and conversations. Visit our website for additional details, and sign up before it’s too late. We’ve got 8 spots to fill and we want YOU to be one of them.

Guatemala is a place of great complexity — politically, economically, culturally, and socially.  We must constantly adapt to emerging realities on the ground. In that sense, Guatemala is an amazing learning lab for social transformation. – L. Dressler

Want more information? In addition to the details on our site, our very own Larry Dressler has a featured blog article over at The HUB. Larry is a co-founder and board member of Reading Village and he’s also been the lead sherpa on our past five trips. Head on over to The HUB for a great read, and then snag one of the last seats on this November’s Learning Journey. We’d love to have you join us.
