The last trip of the day was to the library in Tiquisate. This was the first of the Books and Wings libraries, and this one was built from the ground up. The building is beautiful, full of students, run by creative and caring librarians offering a multitude of programs. Clariza the head librarian, recently returned from back surgery, is an organized, outgoing, generous and creative woman who is behind the success of the library´s growth. They´ve gone from several hundred visits a month to a couple thousand visits under her leadership. Librarians here don´t fit the stererotype of matronly women shushsing kids from behind a desk. They are out in the thick of things working with the students, and the library is a lively place (within reason) where the kids enjoy spending time — as it should be.
