• Change and Be Changed

Time and time again we’re told how our Learning Journeys change people. Combining cultural immersion, with volunteer service, and experiential learning, our Learning Journeys are a great way to experience a developing country and get off the beaten path. See Guatemala in an intimate way - share meals, stories, and bus rides with community members, program participants, and fellow philanthropists.
  • Get Off the Beaten Path

On a Learning Journey doors will be opened, meals shared, and friendships forged to offer you an authentic Guatemalan experience. No other trip will take you this deep into the heart of indigenous Mayan culture. For 8 days you will travel with our youth leaders and staff. They will take you into the homes and schools where they live and work so that you too can see just how wide this world really is.
  • Once in a Lifetime

“I have travelled to many places in the world. This was by far the most meaningful and intimate cultural experience I have ever had. We were welcomed with such open arms.” - Learning Journey Alumni
  • Learn How Literacy Works

Travel with us to Guatemala and see for yourself how youth leaders are transforming their communities through literacy. You will also have the opportunity to take a chocolate making class and tour the charming colonial city of Antigua.
  • Are You In?

Young or old. Novice or experienced traveler. Our trips bring together a diverse group of philanthropists who share a common desire to see the world and change a life. You will make friends from around the world while sitting in local homes and meeting local families. Bridging age gaps, gender gaps, and culture gaps you'll walk away feeling like the world is a little bit smaller than you once believed.

There’s just no substitute for first-hand experience. That’s why each year we offer you the opportunity to travel with us to Guatemala and see the work yourself.  The safe, thoughtful, and curious environment that we foster on our Learning Journey will change the way you look at the world. We want you to see what we see in these communities full of potential, to meet our partners, hear their stories and be moved by their work. For eight days, you will travel with our staff, work along side our youth leaders, and share meals with their families. This is a rare opportunity to get an intimate and authentic look at life in indigenous Guatemalan communities, see first hand how Reading Village is transforming lives through literacy, and experience your own transformation as well.

“I have never been on a trip where I so intimately entered the culture and the lives of local people.” – Learning Journey Alumni
